preservation vs death and other questions

Hello,
Fairly new player here, just have a few questions, may sound noobie i know but I basicly just came from everquest 2, raid defiler, so this cleric normal groupage thing is new Smile

( oh how i miss my wards)
OK first question, I am leaning towards death because it just seems like it offered more variety and damage but a simple stance switch will bring you back to full cleric healing ability, from what I have read you can switch stances mid fight as well which is handy. So my question is, is there a huge benefit from preservation that I am missing? it doesnt appear to up healing a wazoo if at all, so is it just lasting a bit longer?

also with death can you basicly go for the healer gear and still up the damage of death without doing anything crazy like wear medium or light (for the int stats etc) /gasp in horror at wearing cloth Very Happy
